Basic Meaning: to assimilate
Senses:
For example, a seed takes in the conditions of the soil, water, and sunlight, to grow into a sprout, and ultimately, mature into a specific kind of fruit 果. In the embryological example given by Saṃghabhadra 衆賢, the kalala 羯羅藍 assimilates nutrients from the placenta to develop into the ārbuda 額部曇.
