Basic Meaning: scripturalists

Senses:

  • A doctrinally-oriented tradition. A school that is centered on a Buddhist doctrinal system. Same as 教家. In Korea, this was a formally recognized division of Buddhism, as distinguished from the meditation tradition 禪宗.
