Basic Meaning: neither cause nor effect
Senses:
The fourth of the four categories of mistaken non-Buddhist understandings regarding causation 外道四執, asserting that we do not incur any retribution for past actions, and our present actions have no effect on the future. This negative doctrine was held by the Ājīvikas 邪命外道, who considered that the cause and the effect are neither one, nor separate and different.
