Basic Meaning: Mingji Chujun
Senses:
(1262–1336) Known posthumously as 佛日燄慧禪師. Chinese monk of the Linji school 臨濟宗. Founder of the Minki Branch 明極派, one of the twenty-four transmissions of Zen 禪宗二十四流 that reached Japan. He arrived in Japan in 1329. He served as head monk at the Kenninji 建仁寺, Nanzenji 南禪寺 and Kenchōji 建長寺 temples. Before coming to Japan, he was the chief monk of the Fengshengsi 奉聖寺, Ruiyansi 瑞巖寺, Buzisi 普慈寺, Jinshansi 徑山寺, and several other temples in China. He left the Myōki Soshun oshō goroku 明極楚俊和尙語錄.
