Puguang (?–664?); also written 大乘光. A disciple of Xuanzang 玄奘 who worked with him on his translation projects, and who became a key figure in later Abhidharma 倶舍宗 studies in China. He may be the only translation assistant to work with Xuanzang throughout Xuanzangʼs entire translation period (645–664). He was the author of a biography of Vasubandhu 世親 containing the tradition that Vasubandhu went in secret to Kashmir 罽賓 to learn the doctrines of the Vaibhāṣikas 毘婆沙師 in order to refute them. He also wrote the Jushelun ji 倶舍論記 (30 fasc.) in which he schematized the five ranks 五位 of the seventy-five mental factors 七十五法 and criticized the positions of his colleague Fabao 法寶. This commentary is considered to be one of the three major commentaries on the Kośa 倶舍三大疏. [Michael Radich, Charles Muller, Dan Lusthaus; source(s): Kamata, Ui]
