普勸坐禪儀

Pronunciations

Basic Meaning: Universal Promotion of the Principles of Meditation

Senses:

  • The Fukan zazen gi. One fascicle, T 2580, by Dōgen 道元. A short treatise on Zen meditation composed by Dōgen after his return from China, at the age of twenty-eight. It is one of the Sōtō schoolʼs 曹洞宗 essential texts, and among those most widely studied by the followers of Dōgenʼs Buddhism. He states that sitting meditation is not the means to enlightenment, for even when one is enlightened, one still has to practice zazen meditation, which is the basic religious practice for all buddhas.
