Basic Meaning: Pujisi

Senses:

  • Also known as Nengren Pujisi 能仁普濟寺 and Yanshan Nengren Pujichansi 雁山能仁普濟禪寺. A jiacha 甲刹 temple located in the Yandangshan 雁蕩山 mountains in the east of Yueqing 樂淸 in Wenzhou 溫州 ( Zhejiang 浙江 province). Legend claims that it was founded by Nakula 諾矩羅, the fifth of the sixteen arhats 十六羅漢. At the beginning of the Song period 宋代, all of the monks had their own hermitage but in 999 a monastery was built. The temple was restored in the Shaoxing 紹興 era (1131–1162) and established as a Chan school 禪宗 temple by Zhuan Shigui 竹庵士珪 (1083–1146), dharma heir to Foyan Qingyuan 佛眼淸遠 (1067–1120). 〔雁山志〕 , 〔大明一統志四八〕 , 〔大淸一統志二三五〕 [Stefan Grace; source(s): Yokoi, FGD, ZGDJT, Ui]

  • Fusaiji. A Kenchōji branch 建長寺派 temple of the Japanese Rinzai school 臨濟宗 located in Shibasakichō 柴崎町, Tachikawa 立川, Tokyo. Its mountain name 山號 is Genbuzan 玄武山 and its central object of veneration 本尊 is Āryāvalokiteśvara 正觀音. [Stefan Grace; source(s): ZGDJT]
  • A temple of the Japanese Sōtō school 曹洞宗 in Hanetsuku 羽附, Tatebayashi 館林, Gunma 群馬, founded in 1525 by Daiun Ishun 大雲伊俊 (d.u.) under the patronage of the bushō 武將 of Ueno 上野 (Gunma) Nagao Kagenaga 長尾景長 (1469–1528). Its mountain name 山號 is Ryūtōzan 龍洞山. [Stefan Grace; source(s): ZGDJT]
  • A temple of the Japanese Sōtō school 曹洞宗 in Hirosawa 廣澤, Hamamatsu 濱松, Shizuoka 靜岡 prefecture, founded in 1428 by Kezō Gidon 華藏義曇 (1375–1455) under the patronage of Lord Kira 吉良 of Hikuma Castle 引間城 (aka. Hamamatsu Castle). Its mountain name 山號 is Hirosawayama 廣澤山 and it is a branch temple 末寺 of Daijiji 大慈寺 in Higo 肥後 (Kumamoto 熊本 prefecture). The abbotship of the temple stayed in the dharma lineage of Kezō until the early Meiji period. The temple was originally called Zuiensan 隨緣山 and was located on the banks of the Tenryūgawa 天龍川 river.
