Basic Meaning: Zhiyan
Senses:
Chinese monk from Liangzhou 涼州 (mod. Gansu). Went to Kashmir 罽賓 in 394, where he stayed for three years, before returning to China in the company of Buddhabhadra 佛陀跋陀羅. Was active c. 427 in Chang'an 常安 as a translator. He later returned to India and died in Kashmir at the age of 78. He is credited with the translation of Guangbo yanjing butuizhuan lun jing 廣博嚴淨不退轉輪經 (Avaivartikacakra) T 268; Fahua sanmei jing 法華三昧經 [*Puṇḍarīkasamādhi sūtra?] T 269; Wu jinyi pusa pin 無盡意菩薩品 (Akṣayamatinirdeśa) T 397(12) included in Dafangdeng daji jing the 大方等大集經 *[Mahāvaipulyamahā]saṃnipāta sūtra T 397; and the Si tianwang jing 四天王經 T 590.
