(d.u.) A Hossō 法相 monk who was born in the Korean kingdom of Silla 新羅 and immigrated to Japan during the Asuka period 飛鳥時代. According to Gyōnenʼs account, the third transmitter of the Faxiang sect to Japan, and part of the northern transmission 北寺傳. He traveled to Tang China in 703 with Chiran 智鸞 and Chiyū 智雄, and studied Faxiang and vijñapti-mātratā 唯識 with Zhizhou 智周. He later returned to Japan and taught Faxiang at Hōkōji 法興寺 (also known as Asukadera 飛鳥寺). Chihō was named by Fujiwara Fubito 藤原不比等 to be the head of the Vimalakīrti Assembly 維摩會. His principal disciple was Chien 智淵.
