Basic Meaning: Sōgen Tekisui
Senses:
(1661–1717) A Japanese Sōtō school 曹洞宗 monk born in Iwami 石見 (Shimane 嶋根 prefecture) with the surname Kamiyo 神代. Tekisui studied under Gesshū Sōko 月舟宗胡 (1618–1696) and inherited the dharma of Manzan Dōhaku 卍山道白 (1635–1714). He taught widely in places such as Zenjōji 禪定寺 in Yamashiro 山城 (Kyoto 京都), Yōmeiji 永明寺 in Iwami (Shimane prefecture), and Daijōji 大乘寺 in Kaga 加賀 (Ishikawa 石川 prefecture). He was the founder 開祖 of several temples including Shugenji 守源寺 in Iwami, Ryūunji 龍雲寺 in Yamashiro, and Hakubaji 白馬寺 in Ise 伊勢 (Mie 三重 prefecture). Disciples that inherited his dharma include Tōmei Eton 東溟慧暾 (n.d.). His works include Sōgen oshō san'eroku 曹源和尙三會錄.
