Basic Meaning: Gessen Zenne
Senses:
(1702–1781) A Japanese Rinzai 臨濟宗 monk from 田村郡, Mutsu 陸奧 (Fukushima 福嶋 prefecture). He joined the monkhood under Hokuzen Dōsai 北禪道濟 (?–1723) of Kōken'in 高乾院 and later inherited the dharma of Kogetsu Zenzai 古月禪材 (1667–1751). He took up the abbotship at Kōken'in and eventually retired to Tōkian 東輝庵 in Nagata 永田, Musashi 武藏 (Kanagawa 神奈川 prefecture) before passing away on the twelfth day of the sixth month at the age of eighty. His works include the Bukeishū 武溪集 (2 fasc.). His disciples include Bussen Kaigyoku 物先海旭 (1736–1817) and Seisetsu Shūcho 誠拙周樗 (1745–1820).
