  • 歡喜地 is the first of the ten bodhisattva grounds 十地, as explained in the Book of the Ten Stages 十地經 in the Huayan jing (Skt. pramuditā, manâpa, mudita). In this chapter it defines joy as the "increase in conviction; the purity of faith and understanding; the fulfillment of compassion; the adornment of the body with compunction; the possession of the exuberance of fortitude; accumulating wholesome roots without rest; no attachment in the mind; not seeking profit, respect or name; not being attached to family and possessions; happily seeking the standpoint of total knowledge; separation from falsehood and deceit; acting according to oneʼs words; not acting in the world with expectations."
