Basic Meaning: beings who are determined to attain enlightenment

Senses:

  • Among three classes of sentient beings 三聚, those who are fully set on attaining enlightenment (Skt. niyata-rāśi). Bodhisattvas who have entered the middle level of practice, such as the ten abodes 十住, who have solidified their practice to the degree that they will not retrogress. Also written 正性決定.   • In True Pure Land school 淨土眞宗, based on the interpretations of Shinran 親鸞, those who, not having the slightest doubt in the vows of Amitâbha 阿彌陀, are certain, in this life, to be reborn in his Pure Land.
