Basic Meaning: right view

Senses:

  • Correct view. In the most basic interpretation, the view that tallies with the Buddhist teaching of causality; understanding the four noble truths. The first of the items of practice in the Eightfold Correct Path 八正道. More broadly speaking, a view that results in the engagement in wholesome, purifying activities—any view that leads one along the path to enlightenment; as distinguished from wrong views 邪見, which lead to the creation of affliction and suffering.
