沙門果經

Pronunciations

Basic Meaning: Sāmaññaphalasutta

Senses:

  • The twenty-seventh sub-sūtra contained in the Dīrghâgama 長阿含經 (T 1). Translated in the Latter Qin 後秦 in 412, as the collaborative effort of Buddhayaśas 佛陀耶舍 and Zhu Fonian 竺佛念. The first half of the text thoroughly details the positions of the six non-Buddhist schools 六師外道. The second half focuses on the basic tenets of Buddhist thought. Two alternative translations of this text are extant: (1) the Jizhiguo jing 寂志果經, translated by Zhu Tanwulan 竺曇無蘭 of the Eastern Jin 東晉, and (2) the seventh text in the 39th fascicle of the Ekôttarâgama-sūtra 增一阿含經, translated by Saṃghadeva 僧伽提婆 of the Eastern Jin. Translation contained in T.W. Rhys Davids and J.E. Carpenter: The Dīgha Nikāya vo1. Ⅰ (PTS:London, 1889) ; T.W. Rhys: Dialogues of the Buddha Part Ⅰ, 1913. 〔善見律毘婆沙 T 1462.24.675b16〕 [Charles Muller; source(s): FGD]
