Basic Meaning: Dongshanʼs illness

  • This phrase refers to a gong'an 公案 in which Dongshan Liangjie 洞山良价 (807–869) is asked if there is anyone that is free from illness. Dongshan replies that there indeed is, and that he has met him, but that "he was not sick."
