(1822–1881) Korean monk of the late Joseon dynasty. Also known as Udam 優曇 and Uhaeng 禹行. Born in Andong on March 3, 1822. He lost his parents at an early age, and in 1837, at the age of 16, he entered the saṃgha and studied with Jasin 自信 at Huibangsa 喜方寺. He also studied with Yeonwol 蓮月 at Songgwangsa in Jogyesan and with Chimmyeong Hanseong (枕溟翰醒; 1801–1876), and was ordained by Inp'a 仁坡. He passed away on September 8, 1881. Late in his life he wrote the Seonmun jeungjeong nok 禪門證正錄, a criticism of Baekpa Geungseonʼs (白坡亙璇; 1767–1852) magnum opus, Seonmun sugyeong 禪門手鏡. Geungseonʼs disciple, Seoldu Yuhyeong (雪竇有炯; 1824–1889), however, wrote the Seonwon soryu 禪源溯流 in response to Honggiʼs critique of Geungseonʼs text and also debated with Choui Uisunʼs (草衣意恂; 1786–1866) theories of Seon meditation as articulated in his magnum opus, Seonmun sabyeonman-eo 禪門四辨漫語. This theological debate was later organized and summarized in Chugwon Jinhaʼs (竺源震河; 1861–1926) text, Seonmun jaejeong nok 禪門再正錄. [Juhn Ahn]
