Basic Meaning: Jingyingsi

Senses:

  • A temple in Chang-an built by Emperor Wen of the Sui Dynasty 隋文帝 for the great scholar-monk Huiyuan 慧遠 (523–592), who lectured here extensively on such scriptural texts as the Nirvāṇa-sūtra 涅槃經, Daśabhūmikasūtra-śāstra 十地論, and so forth. More than two hundred student priests lived there when Huiyuan was in residence. In the Tang Dynasty, Amoghavajra 不空金剛 stayed here. The temple no longer exists. [Charles Muller]
