Basic Meaning: cessation does not await a cause
Senses:
Skt. ākasmiko hi bhāvānāṃ vināśaḥ (Pradhan 1967, 163); Tib. 'jig pa [ni] rgyu med pa (D 4090: vol. 140, folio/line 166b.4). This is a phrase found in Vasubandhuʼs 世親 auto-commentary to the Abhidharmakośabhāṣya 倶舍論 that encapsulates his view on the spontaneous cessation of dharmas 自然滅. According to Vasubandhu, the destruction of the dharma does not depend upon the intervention of a cause external to the dharma itself. This is because dharmas are, by nature, momentary 刹那滅.
