Basic Meaning: Mutoku Ryōgo zenji goroku

Senses:

  • (6 fasc.) A work recording the sayings of Japanese Sōtō school 曹洞宗 monk Mutoku Ryōgo 無得良悟, compiled by disciples such as Kairin 海琳 (d.u.) and published in 1732. Mutoku studied under Ōbaku school 黃檗宗 masters such as Yinyuan Longqi 隱元隆琦 (1592–1673), Mokuan Shōtō 木菴性瑫 (1611–1684), and Chōon Dōkai 潮音道海 (1628–1695), as well as under Sōtō masters such as Gesshū Sōko 月舟宗胡 (1618–1696) and Tesshin Dōin 鐵心道印 (1593–1680). He went on to inherit the dharma of Kaiō Junpo 海翁潤補 (d.u.) of Jisshōin 實性院 in Kaga 加賀, Ishikawa 石川 prefecture. [Stefan Grace; source(s): ZGDJT, Yokoi]
