Basic Meaning: dissimilar-partial, similar-whole
Senses:
(Skt. vipakṣaikadeśavṛtti sepakṣavyāpī-anaikāntika). One of the six fallacies occurring within the reason of a syllogism related to inconclusiveness 六不定過, a group that is in turn included under the larger category of fourteen fallacies within the reason 因十四過. A reason in some negative examples and in all positive examples; i. e. the syllogism is inconclusive because the property expressed by the middle term is present in all similar instances and in some dissimilar instances. For example, a Śābdabhivyaktivādin against a Śabdôtpattivādin:
"sound is a product of effort, because it is impermanent."
