(d.u.) Eminent Korean monk from the late Goryeo dynasty. Also known as Cheochaek 天枩, Cheon-in 天因, Mongcha 蒙且, and Naewondang 內願堂. Born into a family of nobility, he passed the national examination at the age of 20 and became a renowned Confucian scholar. Later on, however, he turned to Buddhism, entering the saṃgha. During the reign of King Chungseon (1308–1313) he went to the White Lotus Society 白蓮社 located in Mandeoksan 萬德山 where he was ordained by a master named Yeonyul 蓮律 and inherited the teachings of the founder of the society, Wonmyo Yosei 圓妙了世. He subsequently became the fourth patriarch of the White Lotus Society, but left the society to live in a hermitage called Yonghyeor'am 龍穴庵. He is the author of numerous influential works including the four volume Haedongjeon hongnok 海東傳弘錄, the Silburok 室簿錄, the three volume Seonmun bojang nok 禪門寶藏錄, the Hosallok 湖山錄, and many others.
