The Jutanmi jiguo jing. 1 fasc., K 683, T 60. Translation by Huijian 慧簡. (see K 682). Nanjō 591; Ono. 2:352a. Mahāprajāpatī
Mahā Prajāpatī (Pāli: Mahā Pajāpatī) Gotamī 瞿曇彌 is the Buddhaʼs aunt and foster-mother, who nurses the child Siddhartha when his own mother (Mahā Māyā) dies a week after his birth. After imploring the Buddha three times to be allowed to become a nun and being rejected, she cries. Witnessing this, Ānanda once again makes a request to Śākyamuni and she is admitted, based on her acceptance of eight precepts for nuns 八敬法. Original Pāli text: AN.8.51 Gotami-sutta, Culla Vagga of the Vinaya (Cv 10.5). Variant translation: Qutanmi jing 瞿曇彌經 of the Madhyamâgama 中阿含經 T 26(116), 四分律T 1428(48), 五分律T 1421(29).
