Basic Meaning: ten approaches to meditation
Senses:
In the Zhiguan dayi 止觀大意 (but also found in earlier prajñāpāramitā literature) these are: four basic meditations 根本四禪, sixteen superior [forms of meditation] 十六特勝, discernment 通明, nine kinds of meditation [on a corpse to quell desire] 九想, eight kinds of abandonment 八背捨, meditation on impurity 大不淨, compassion 慈心, dependent arising 因緣, mindfulness of the Buddha [ʼs name] 念佛, and supranormal cognition 神通.
