Basic Meaning: Zenkaiketsu
Senses:
(1 fasc.) A work recording the sermons of Manzan Dōhaku 卍山道白 (1635–1714), compiled by Sanshū Hakuryū 三洲白龍 (1669–1760) and published in 1740. This work positions the bodhisattva precepts as the most important element of the Chan/Seon/Zen tradition and argues for the superiority of the Mahāyāna over the Theravāda. As the first work on Zen precepts following Dōgen Kigenʼs 道元希玄 (1200–1253) writings, it became an important model for similar works that followed.
