Basic Meaning: Chanlin leiju
Senses:
(20 fasc.) A work compiled by Zhijing 智鏡 (d.u.) and Daotai 道泰 (d.u.), et al. during the Yuan dynasty 元代 and published in 1307. It contains records of the sayings of the patriarchs, encounter dialogues, poetry, and commentaries separated into thematic sections across more than one hundred pages. Preserved in Japan are a Five Mountains 五山 edition published in 1367 and an edition from 1649, in addition to a 1675 version that features Japanese punctuation inserted by Mangen Shiban 卍元師蠻 (1636–1710). There also exists a four-fascicle abridged version that goes under the same title but which is colloquially referred to as Ba leiju 拔類聚. [Stefan Grace; source(s): ZGDJT, Yokoi, FGD]
