Basic Meaning: Sutra on the Essentials of Meditation
Senses:
The Chanyao jing. 1 fasc., K 1012, T 609. Translator unknown: listed in the Hou Han lu 後漢錄 (25–220).1 Nanjō 1360; Ono. 6:408c. Translated during the Eastern Han. Also known as the Chanyao jing heyu pin 禪要經訶欲品 and Chanyao heyu jing 禪要訶欲經. This text explains the meditations that consist of the contemplation of impurity 不淨觀, with the intent of destroying addiction to color 色欲, to form 形容欲, to demeanor 威儀欲, to sound 言聲欲, to tenderness of skin 細滑欲, to human features 人相欲. These six are said to bring about the attainment of the wise observance of emptiness and purity 空淸淨智觀. Part of the text overlaps with T 616 禪法要解, which was translated by Kumārajīva 鳩摩羅什.
