Senses:
Since its earliest manifestations, Buddhism has taught that there are six elements: earth 地, water 水, fire 火, wind 風, space 空, and consciousness 識. The first four 四大 comprise the elements that give form to the myriad phenomena; space is required for their existence. See the Foguang Dictionary for more detailed discussion.
