Basic Meaning: emptiness of the ultimate truth

Senses:

  • It means that the concept of 'ultimate truth' 第一義 is 'empty,' which is to say, devoid of any ultimately real referent. In other words, 'there is no such thing as ultimate truth,' even if the concept has some conventional usefulness (Skt. paramârtha-śūnyatā). Synonymous with 不思議空.
