Basic Meaning: homogenous production

Senses:

  • Related effects; similarity in the results; natural outcome. The aspect of karmic causation that emphasizes that which is found in common between cause and effect. Like effects arise like causes, e.g. good from good, evil from evil; present condition in life from conduct in previous existence; hearing from sound, etc. There is also the special case of unwholesome causes leading to indeterminacy, indeterminacy leading to unwholesome results. Also expressed as 自類果 (Skt. niṣyanda-phala, samānaṃ phalam, niṣyandika, niṣyanda; Tib. rgyu mthun pa'i 'bras bu, rgyu mthun pa'i 'bras bu). The Yogâcārabhūmi-śāstra says: 「或似先業後果隨轉。是名等流果。」 One of the five aspects 五果 of causation through the store consciousness 阿賴耶識.
