Basic Meaning: Recorded sayings of Chan master Suru Huan
Senses:
Suru Huan chanshi yulu. Six fascicles. The recorded sayings of master Boshan Suru 博山粟如 (1630–1706) of the Caodong school 曹洞宗 of Chan Buddhism, published in 1714 [J40nB490_p0471c07]. The work contains the masterʼs recorded teaching from three different temples in Xinzhou 信州 (Jiangxi 江西 province): Nengrensi 能仁寺 on Mt. Bo 博山, Gaoquansi 高泉寺, and Yingshansi 瀛山寺. The instructions include sermons from the high seat 上堂, small gatherings 小參, instructions to the assembly 示衆, gong-an interviews 入室機緣, gong-an verses 拈頌, Buddhist services 佛事, eulogies 佛祖讚, and poetry 詩偈. Attached to the work is an introduction written by Suruʼs disciples, which includes an epitaph and a short memorial-stele biography of the master. [Erez Joskovich; source(s): ZGDJT]
