Basic Meaning: voice

Senses:

  • Words, speech, sound. As sound, the requisite for the auditory consciousness 耳識 (Skt. śabda; Pāli sadda). As one of the five fields 五塵, it is the field of sound 聲入, or 聲塵. Being produced from the four elements 四大 it is the object of the auditory faculty 耳根. One of the mental factors of in the category of form 色法 in the Yogâcāra framework of mental factors. According to the Kanjin kakumu shō, There are two kinds: sensed 執受 and unsensed 不執受, as well as four kinds of concurrent receptions: pleasant 可意, unpleasant 不可意, and both arising in contradiction. Each of these six kinds has its own seeds, so they are not derivative factors. Their raw substance 本質 is transformed at the level of the eighth consciousness.
