Basic Meaning: enlightenment as result

Senses:

  • Awakening 菩提 comes about as the consequence 果 of practice, that is, karmic causes and conditions. It is the culmination of all Buddhist practices. Synonymous with 'fruit of Buddhahood'  佛果 (or 證果) (Skt. bodhiphala, bauddhī; Tib. byang chub kyi 'bras bu). 〔瑜伽論 T 1579.30.563b24〕 [Charles Muller, Griffith Foulk]
