Basic Meaning: Saṃghabhadra

Senses:

  • A Sarvâstivādin 薩婆多部 scholar-monk from Kashmir 罽賓 who lived during the fifth century. The author of many Abhidharma treatises, he was a younger contemporary of Vasubandhu 世親, and he criticized the latterʼs work on the Abhidharmakośa 倶舍論. Putative author of the eighty-fascicle Abhidharma-nyāyânusāra śāstra 阿毘達磨順正理論. His name is transliterated as 僧伽跋陀羅. (Tib.
