  • Indifference; equilibrium; composure; serenity; tranquility (Skt. upekṣā, upekṣaka, adhyupekṣaṇā). The mind as impartial and free from frenzied movement, a condition needed for the practice of calm abiding meditation 奢摩他. One of the ten wholesome mental function factors listed in the Abhidharmakośa-bhāṣya, one of the eleven wholesome mental factors 十一善 enumerated by the Yogâcāra school.
