Basic Meaning: practice and understanding
Senses:
Wherein practice 行 refers to 修行, and understanding 解 refers to 知解, 智解, 認知, etc. A usage primarily seen in the texts of the Chan/Seon/Zen schools, but can also be found in Tiantai and Huayan literature. Often expressed with the understanding that practice and understanding should be used together 行解兼修, or that they should resonate with each other 行解相應.

[Charles Muller; source(s): Nakamura,Yokoi, Iwanami]
A Yogâcāra reference to the case where the mind-king 心王 and the mental factors 心所 simultaneously move in response to the same object. The movement of the mind king 心王 and its functions 心所 toward the apprehension of an object is called 行, and that which is understood from this is called 解. This notion is treated by Xuanzangʼs 玄奘 disciples such as Puguang 普光 in his Jushelun ji 倶舍論記 and Kuiji 窺基 in his Cheng weishilun shuji 成唯識論述記.
〔大毘婆沙論, 成唯識論〕
Cf. 行相. [Charles Muller; source(s): Nakamura]
