Basic Meaning: expectation as cause

Senses:

  • One of the ten causes 十因 taught in the Yogâcārabhūmi-śāstra. Causation according to reception. Depending on the arising and abiding of A, various affairs of B attain completion. The A that is awaited is the cause of the waiting. For example, with the hands as cause, there is the action of grasping (Skt. apekṣā-hetu). 〔瑜伽論 T 1579.30.501a10〕 [Charles Muller]
