諸行無常

Basic Meaning: all conditioned things are impermanent

Senses:

  • All conditioned things are in continual flux. A corollary of this doctrinal proposition is that anything unconditioned 無爲 is beyond flux, and therefore genuinely eternal 常住. According to the doctrine of momentariness 刹那滅義, conditioned dharmas 有爲法 come to cease immediately upon arising, in the very same place that they arise. Therefore, while composite things may appear to move, the ultimate constituents of things, the conditioned dharmas, do not move. The first of the three seals 三法印 of the Buddhist doctrine. Synonymous with the statement 諸法無常 (Skt. anityābatasaṃskārāḥ, sarva-saṃskārā-anityāḥ, saṃskārânityatā, anityatvam...saṃskārāṇāṃ, bhūtânityatā; Tib.
