Basic Meaning: Madhyânta-vibhāga

Senses:

  • Bian zhongbian lun; 3 fasc.; T 1600.31.464–477. Xuanzangʼs 玄奘 translation (in 661) of the Madhyântavibhāga-bhāṣya, which is more commonly known by the name applied to Paramârthaʼs 眞諦 translation of the same text, the Zhongbian fenbie lun 中邊分別論 (T 1599.31.451–463); abbreviated as 中邊論 (for a more detailed discussion of the contents of this text, see that entry). Probably the results of the combined efforts of Maitreya 彌勒, Asaṅga 無著 and Vasubandhu 世親, this is one of the fundamental texts of the Faxiang 法相 school. Translation from Sanskrit and Tibetan in Anacker (1984); translation of the first chapter from Sanskrit, with reference to Sthiramatiʼs commentary in Kochumuttom. 〔續高僧傳 T 2060.50.458a4〕
