The leader of one of the six major non-Buddhist schools 六師外道 of philosophy in ancient India. Also written as 迦羅拘陀迦旃延, 迦據多迦旃延, 腳倶陀迦多演那, 婆浮陀伽吒那, and abbreviated as 娑迦遮延, 波休迦旃, and 迦旃 (but the last is also used for other persons with the name of Katyāyana. 迦旃延 is his surname, which is also translated into Chinese as 剪剃. 迦羅鳩馱 is his style, translated into Chinese as 黑領. He taught that all the fortune and misfortune of living beings is created by the god Īśvara 自在天. When Īśvara is happy, people can enjoy security and happiness; when he is angry, people are beset with suffering and misfortune. Thus, there is basically nothing that people can do about their own fortunes. If one commits murder and feels no guilt, they need not fall into hell; but if he does feel guilt, he will fall into hell. From the perspective of Buddhism, they are referred to as the Shameless Non-Buddhists 無慚外道 who are gripped by evil views 邪見.
