  • (1255–1325. ); posthumous title 佛慧禪師. Chinese monk of the Linji (J. Rinzai) school 臨濟宗. Founder of the Butsue Branch 佛慧派, one of the twenty-four transmissions of Zen 禪宗二十四流 that reached Japan. Arrived in Japan in 1319 and became the nineteenth abbot of Kenchōji 建長寺 in Kamakura. [Michel Mohr]
