Basic Meaning: the self that is neither identical to nor different from the aggregates
Senses:
The subject of transmigration as posited by the Vātsīputrīyas 犢子部, which is neither identical to, nor different from the five skandhas 五蘊. However, the combination of the five aggregates 五蘊, twelve fields 十二處, and eighteen cognitive factors 十八界 is provisionally designated as an individual existence (Skt. pudgala). If all phenomena (dharmas) were separated from the pudgala transition from the prior existence to the subsequent existence would not be possible.
