Basic Meaning: Yōkenji
Senses:
A temple of the Myōshinji branch 妙心寺派 of the Japanese Rinzai school 臨濟宗 located in Yamagiwa 山際, Saiki 佐伯, Ōita 大分 prefecture. Its mountain name is Ryūteizan 龍鼎山. It was established by Mōri Takamasa 毛利高政 (1559–1628) with Sankan Sōyō 三關宗要 (a.k.a. Daikan Jikō Zenji 大觀慈光禪師) (n.d.) as the founding abbot. The central object of veneration 本尊 is a statue of Tathāgata Śākyamuni 釋迦如來, which is flanked by statues of Mañjuśrī 文殊 and Samantabhadra Bodhisattva 普賢菩薩. [Stefan Grace; source(s): ZGDJT]
