Basic Meaning: phenomena and principle are not two
Senses:
A quintessential position of the East Asian Mahayana worldview. Dependently arisen, visible, sensible, imaginable phenomena are not separate or distinct from underlying invisible reality. The matter of the relationship between principle 理 and phenomena 事 was a topic in the debates of the Huayan 華嚴 commentators, but can also be found in other traditions. See also 體用.
