Basic Meaning: self and other are not two
Senses:
Others are the same as oneself and not different. Mahāyāna 大乘 Buddhism believes that human beings start by loving themselves, but they argue that those who protect themselves must also protect the selves of others. The self whose self-protection is also the protection of others is not the self that opposes each other, but the self that becomes clearer through co-operation with others. [自他融合]
