John Powers


John Powers is Professor of Asian Studies in the College of Asia and the Pacific, Australian National University. He received a Ph.D. in Buddhist Studies from University of Virginia in 1991. His main area of specialization is Buddhist history of ideas, which includes India, Tibet, and China. He has published 14 books and more than 60 articles, including the Historical Dictionary of Tibet (with David Templeman; Scarecrow Press, 2012) and A Bull of a Man: Images of Masculinity, Sex, and the Body in Indian Buddhism (Harvard University Press, 2009). He has contributed several hundred entries to the DDB selected from his Historical Dictionary of Tibet. [2013-4-1]
