indeterminate mental factors
- Mental factors 心所 which do not necessarily arise in all states of mind, and have no predisposition toward good or evil. In the Abhidharma, there are eight mental factors in this category, more precisely termed as 不定地法. In Yogâcāra 瑜伽行派 there are four of these mental factors: regret 追悔 (kaukṛtya), drowsiness 睡眠 (middha), discovery 尋 (vitarka), and scrutiny 伺 (vicāra). Also called the "four indeterminate states" 四不定法 (Skt. aniyatā dharmāḥ). 〔瑜伽論 T 1579.30.440b21〕 [resp. Charles Muller; source(s): Hirakawa, Yokoi]
- The two indeterminate offenses and their punishments 二不定法. [resp. Charles Muller]
