- Naturally; as it is; naturally occurring (法爾, 自然). Effortlessly. That which is arisen spontaneously, and is not directly initiated 作 by one's present discrimination or volition. This term is found in non-Buddhist works such as the Songshu 宋書 (Wangjingwenzhuan 王景文傳), the Zhengao 眞誥 and so forth, applied with this kind of meaning. It is synonymous with the term 任數 from the Huainanzi 淮南子 (原道訓), and the terms 任天, 任理, 任自然 found in Guoxiang's 郭象 commentary on the Zhuangzi 莊子.
