shared karma
- Karma that is held in common by certain groups of people (Skt. sādhāraṇa-karman). Effects that are shared with others as a result of their sharing in the same activities. For example, the fact that people experience their environment and the things of the natural world in the same way is explained by the fact that they share in the same flow of activity. In contrast to this are the effects of individual activity that are not necessarily shared with others 不共業. Often refers to the environment of the natural world, and is thus close in meaning to "circumstantial reward" 依報. 〔無量壽經宗要 T 1747.37.126b26; 瑜伽論 T 1579.30.664a24〕 [resp. Charles Muller; ref.
