Seung Sahn
- (1927–2004) Originally from Korea, Seung Sahn taught Korean Buddhism throughout the world for more than thirty years. Seung Sahn began his international Buddhist propagation work by opening Hongbeop-won 弘法院 in Tokyo in 1966 for Koreans living in Japan and then in 1971, hearing of the growing interest in Seon (Zen) among Westerners, he left for the United States, where he energetically taught Seon Buddhism. He founded the "Gwan Um school of Seon." which included 120 meditation centers in 30 different countries, teaching an estimated 50,000 students. [resp. O. B. Chun]
